What's New in BFSI

What's new in BFSI

The stories that shaped BFSI in September 2026.

1. India Starts Building UPI for Agentic Payments

NPCI is developing a Unified Agentic Protocol (UAP) that would let verified AI agents initiate UPI payments within user-set permissions, backed by an AI-agent registry. The rollout is on hold while safeguards for liability and user protection are finalised.

From Human-Initiated Payments to AI-Executed Transactions: Authenticated agents could execute approved payments within defined limits and consent.
Why It Matters: UPI hit a record 24.51 billion transactions in August 2026. An identity layer for agents could make agentic payments core infrastructure, not an app feature.

2. SBI Pushes Banking From KYC to "Know Your Agent"

SBI Chairman C.S. Setty

At GFF 2026, SBI Chairman C.S. Setty said banking must move from "Know Your Customer" to "Know Your Agent" as AI starts executing actions, anchored in three A's: Accuracy, Accountability and Access without asymmetry.

From AI Assistants to Governed AI Actors: Banks need to know which agent is acting, what it may do and how each decision is traced.
Why It Matters: Agent identity could matter as much as customer identity, making limits, audit trails and accountability core banking infrastructure.

3. BharatPe Brings Agentic AI Into the Merchant Operating System

BharatPe launched an agentic AI assistant inside BharatPe for Business, connected to 60+ live systems. It acts for merchants: resolving complaints and chargebacks, following up and recommending products.

From Merchant Support to Merchant Execution: The agent understands the request and coordinates actions across systems, so merchants skip dashboards and IVRs.
Why It Matters: AI moves from sitting beside the product to operating inside it, turning the app into an intelligent operating layer.

RevRag AI Updates

1. RevRag AI Takes In-App Agents to Global Fintech Fest 2026

The RevRag AI booth and team at Global Fintech Fest 2026

At Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, RevRag AI showed how AI agents built inside financial apps help customers navigate, understand and complete their journeys.

From AI Outside the Journey to AI Inside the Product: In-App AI Agents assist customers while they are still in the journey, before they drop off.
Why It Matters: The opportunity is shifting from automating conversations to improving the journeys where onboarding, conversion and revenue happen.

2. RevRag AI Launches Three New Agent Capabilities at GFF 2026

Visitors at the RevRag AI booth during the launch at Global Fintech Fest 2026

At GFF 2026, RevRag AI launched three capabilities: the In-App Co-Pilot Agent, In-App Avatar Agent and RevRag AI MCP.

In-App Co-Pilot Agent

Lives inside a BFSI app, understands what the customer is trying to do, guides them past friction in real time and brings in a human when needed.

From Support After Drop-Off to Guidance During the Journey: It helps while the user is still in the app, not after they abandon.

In-App Avatar Agent

Lets users explain what they want in plain language and talks them through the journey step by step, escalating to a human when necessary.

From Forms and Screens to Conversation: Complex journeys become guided conversations that feel human.

RevRag AI MCP

Lets developers build and integrate In-App AI Agents directly from Claude Code, Codex and other MCP-compatible tools.

From Fragmented Agent Development to One Connected Workflow: Build, test and integrate agents without leaving the coding environment.

3. "Espresso & Agents" and "No KYC Required" Bring BFSI Leaders Together at GFF

Alongside GFF, RevRag AI hosted two gatherings built for conversation, not panels: Espresso & Agents with SuperBryn, a breakfast for BFSI founders and leaders at The Earth Cafe, BKC, and No KYC Required with Deepgram, an evening mixer for 100+ CXOs, founders and builders.

From Conference Networking to Real Industry Conversations: No stages or sales pitches, just open conversations on In-App Agents, Voice AI and Agentic AI.
Why It Matters: As BFSI moves from AI experiments to deployment, these rooms surface the problems that decide what scales.

Ashutosh Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of RevRag AI, took the GFF 2026 stage to show how financial apps can evolve from static interfaces into contextual experiences that understand intent and act inside the app.

From Static Banking Interfaces to Intelligent Financial Journeys: AI becomes a contextual layer that assists customers through forms and workflows.
Why It Matters: AI may become part of the interface itself, not just another feature.
